Line load in STAAD.Pro physical modeler can be defined by reference lines, which can be used to define line loads across surfaces to model non-structural line loads such as stud partitions. These will be used as meshing constraints, but can also extend as non-structural entities and as such distribute loading onto the primary structure.

Procedure

  • Firstly, we will have to create a tabletop model in STAAD.Pro Physical Modeler for this demonstration. After the model is created, we will add section and material properties to all the members. Next, we will add fixed support to the base nodes of the structure.
  • Secondly, we will create a surface and define its thickness at the top of the tabletop structure.
  • Finally, we will have to create a reference line and apply the surface line load from the “Reference Line” tab. The reference line creation is demonstrated in the video below.
